This afternoon, we’ve released a new feature called profile comments. Those of you used to other social networks, should be pretty familiar with this feature. Basically, it allows you to leave a message for someone on their profile page. You’re basically allowed to leave whatever message you like, but remember it’s up to the user how their profile privacy works.
We’ve also released a few settings additions for this feature. Those who would not like to use this feature or to have anyone commenting on their page can completely turn it off. Those who want only their friends to be able to can choose that option as well. And for those of you who don’t want all those pesky emails coming your way any time you get an email, you’ve got that option also.
If someone writes on your page, we’ve given a few features to you (as the profile owner). If don’t like what they said, you can delete it. If you want to write something back to that user, a reply link will be next to their name allowing you to quickly get back to them. And by choosing the “history” link, you’ll be able to see all posts between yourself and that user. Privacy settings again apply to all of these features.
If anyone finds anything happening with these features over the next couple of days, please let me know.
So today is now September 19th (at least EST -5:00 it is), which is the official day for talking like a pirate. And while talking like a pirate has really very little to do with IHM (unless of course you’re interested in one of the eight trillion pirate movies out there and want them all on IHM), I figured anytime you can make a pirate pun is a great time to make a blog post.
As some of you have probably noticed we’ve put up some new ads today. While those of you who use adblock extensions are missing out on all the fun, the rest of us are viewing Netflix, iTunes, Busted Tees and AllPoster ads. Hopefully the change in content provides something a bit closer to what you guys enjoy and if you’ve been thinking about checking out something from one of the companies, you’ll check out their services (and maybe even help out IHM by signing up/purchasing).
As lively as a paragraph about web advertising is, I’d like to actual focus this post more towards a discussion. I’d like to hear what you guys think of the site so far. How do you think we’re doing? What would you like to see? Is there something we really missing and you hate us until we get it?
And just so you guys see where we’re planning to go, some of our next ideas for features include groups, lists, general forums and the contribute engine being finished. Maybe we’ll even throw in some signature images or banners for you to put on your website, myspace, emails or whatever.
So, here’s your part. Let us know what you’re thinking and how you feel.
Help us and get the poster you already wanted by purchasing a poster from AllPosters.com through IHM’s affiliate. We’ve set up an affiliation with AllPosters.com to provide you direct access to the largest poster store on the web and while you browse and shop, you help IHM without having to pay or do anything extra. If you want to check out some cool movie posters, check out AllPosters.com
I know it seems like over the past month we’ve disappeared. You may have got the feeling because I haven’t been able to write up amazing blog posts that inform you while still making your heart tingle. Or maybe, it was the fact that we haven’t been as noticeable lately as we were. Or, still yet, it could be that a super widget hasn’t been released in awhile (let alone a big, shiny new feature).
As most of you know, Jason and I are college students. So, being that the fall is beginning again, we’ve headed back to school with bags on our backs and pencils in our pockets. We’re eager to learn and increase our collective intellects (read: get our degrees). Because of us getting shuffled into this new routine, we’ve been a bit out of whack when it comes to IHM.
Anyway, while I know you all want to read more about us, I won’t continue to bore entertain you all on that subject. We’ve got some tiny bugfixes and a new page released today!
The character bug on summaries (plots) that was causing users errors when they submitted summaries has been fixed. Users should now not have this trouble happening on weird characters.
We’ve also created a Browse>Trailers page today. This page will allow you to browse all the flash trailers on IHM. You can find it here.
Expect developments and new features to start rolling out again. Our apologies on our recent disappearances.
